Hello there

When replacing rocker cover gaskets do you put them on dry or do you apply a sealer aswell? If so what do you use?

hello Sal,

I do use a sealer on one side, more to locate the gasket than any sealing benefit.

Whenever I have changed a rocker gasket, the replacement seems to have shrunk, and is smaller than the recess around the lip of the rocker cover.
I usually put a few blobs of blue Hylomar in the recess, and gently stretch the gasket to fit using small clamps in the corners until it has regained its correct shape being careful it doesn't break.
All my spares (which are new old stock) had also shrunk...not sure why....

I to use sealant on the lower face so it sticks to the engine block, but just a smear of grease on the upper.
Oil pools at the rear and runs down the side of the block - the gasket forms a dam.
(flat gasket and alloy rocker cover - no recess)
