Engine Identification - Help Needed
Thanks I’ll put my glasses on when I check this time! One of the team has ‘invested’ in a boroscope that works off a Android smart phone, we’ll check in the bores for domed pistons, just to confirm.

Re: Engine Identification - Help Needed
So it's a late factory reconditioned block with a late 2500 head.
Everything stacks up. I think you can dismiss any thoughts of it being a 2000!

johnnydog - Yes it’s a bonus for us. We are still going to use the boroscope to check how good the bores are and whether the head needs a decoke.

Re: Engine Identification - Help Needed
So the engine number is MG57520E and the cylinder head is 218225. I was told when I bought the car last year that its from a Triumph 2500 PI? It has been totally rebuilt and sorted by TRGB and goes really well, its running twin SU HS6's with a custom exhaust and manifold so as you can imagine its a really nice drive. The main reason for wanting confirmation about the engines origin is so that when I need to purchase replacement parts I can obtain the correct ones first time. Its also running a Triumph O/D gearbox, which is a little noisy and will need attention before too long, I will find the serial number for identification purposes over the next day or so.
Any assistance you can provide will be much appreciated.
Regards. Mark
Re: Engine Identification - Help Needed
Hi Mark,
I can confirm that an engine no prefixed with MG is for a 132 bhp 2.5PI, and the 218225 head was fitted to both the 2000 and 2.5PI both from engine nos 50,000. The 2000 ran to engine no. approx ME 86,000 and the PI to approx. engine no MG 82,000 with this head.
If we can help you further in identifying the gearbox just post it on here!

Re: Engine Identification - Help Needed
Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I am now the owner of said car with the UKC560 engine number and the 219016 cylinder head.
It's already been established that this is a factory replacement 2500 engine, but does anyone know what camshaft would have been used?
Subsequent test drives since purchase have shown that this car is very quick indeed and I'd be surprised if it's just a standard 2.5 cam in it.

Re: Engine Identification - Help Needed
Assuming it is as it left the factory, then it should have this camshaft fitted.

But parts could have been easily be changed given its age, so its anybody's guess if it is still as original....... being 'very quick' can only be a bonus though??

Re: Engine Identification - Help Needed
Being 'very quick' is a definite bonus.
I'm not complaining, I'm just surprised how quick it is for a supposedly 'standard' cam, but as long as it keeps going I'm never likely to find out because I wont be disturbing it.
