When removing the old engine mounting rubbers, I noticed a thick (10 mm) spacer plate below them. They do not look original equipment,  made of a rectangular steel plate, two holes for passing the bolts. The plates do not appear in the Parts Manual.
I did notice before that the engine mountings looked a bit deformed. I think these plates could well be the cause for this (I have to mount the new rubbers).
What could have been the reason for having these plates? The front of the engine would sit a little higher. Maybe the PO had clearance problems with the fan nearly hitting the radiator? Sump hitting the crossmember?
Ideas anyone?
Dion.

As far as I know, they\'re standard. I thought there was only one
fitted, on the left (based on what I\'ve read), but when I wanted to
lift the engine on mine I found there was one each side.<br>

They are standard on 2500\'s so that the sump clears the steering rack. On post 75 cars (HS6 carbs) they fit two to the carb side of the engine and none to the LHS&nbsp;so that the airbox clears the strut
