Rusty Custard
Lloyd Reed at South Wales Triumph, lists them but they are out of stock. I don’t suppose Anyone has any in their parts/panels stash by chance?

Re: Rusty Custard
In the absence of any pre-formed panels, our body man has fabbed up some Sections from scratch and let them in. He’s also added metal back to the door edges and n/s rear wing. Now for the paintwork.

Re: Rusty Custard
Sorted a Low speed mis-fire seemingly badly adjusted front carb, so need to check the mixtures again.
Then took her out for a high (legal) speed test up the local dual carriageway and discovered a high revs stutter when gunning it through the gears, which feels like fuel starvation. I have posted a query in the tech section if anyone can help?

Re: Rusty Custard
It couldn't be anything as simple as excess sediment in the base of the pump or the gauze partially blocked in the pump restricting fuel flow that may be causing the hesitation or stuttering when the carbs fuel demand is at its greatest, could it? Equally, the S had an in line fuel filter just prior to the fuel pump - if this was fitted along with the S running gear, if this is partially blocked with sediment or silt, then maybe a new filter may help?
Or maybe a weak mixture?

Re: Rusty Custard
The external filters are all new. Good point about the internal Pump filter, when I rebuilt the pump, the internal filter was quite distorted and although I corrected it, it would have been better if the rebuild kit had a replacement. It’s possible that the filter has returned to its previous rather mangled shape. Top off to check I think.

Re: Rusty Custard
Good call on the internal pump filter, we have replaced the rebuilt fuel pump with a new one. On inspection of the old unit, the internal plastic filter was both twisted and detached. The replacement has largely cured the mis-fire apart from when screaming the nuts off it.

Plugs for that! Use Denso iridium plugs.

Re: Rusty Custard
Update on RC - after a long lay-off, we’ve got her back on the road, MOT’d (no advisories). Yesterday Team Rusty Custard took her out for a 500 mile shake down run to see what would fall off. So from Ipswich to Gravesend (A13/M25/A2), Gravesend to Bedford (A2/M25/A1M/A1/A421), breakfast, Bedford to Holt (A428/A14/A11/local roads) in deepest darkest Norfolk, back to Bedford and then Gravesend and Ipswich. Average mpg = 23.7 including a lot of motorway & dual carriageway high speed miles
What fell off - nothing.
What went well - the car, strong engine, the 3.45:1 diff makes it a lovely high speed cruiser in O/D fourth. The MG ZTT seats are really comfortable and supportive for long drives. The 14” rims and Uniroyal rain master tyres were great in the intermittent showers and flash flooding on some Norfolk back roads.
What needs looking at - several things will make it a better long distance driver.
The front right brake disk is warped
The accelerator cable is ‘sticky’ rather than smooth, particularly on take-off, also there is a squeaky/groany noise from the bulkhead as you press the accelerator. It all needs investigating, any tips on weak points etc. would be appreciated.
The drivers door window winder is in the wrong position with the window closed so it sticks in your calf whilst driving.
Various wind whistles from door frames, with a great draft round the back of the drivers neck traced to the drivers side rear door rubber. Solution- drive with jacket collar up.
Any advice on the accelerator pedal problem would be appreciated.

Re: Rusty Custard
I would disconnect the throttle cable at the carb end, and with an assistant keeping the tension, depress the throttle pedal. If the roughness is in the cable i.e its frayed or kinked, then you will feel it. If it is nice and smooth, then I would turn my investigations to the carb linkage, or butterflies / spindles etc.
You could also check the operation of throttle pedal itself whilst the cable is disconnected, and the welded cable guide on the bulkhead as a possible cause of the squeak / groan.
