I bought this pi 5 years ago. I've decided it needs to come out of storage and back on the road as it has only been on the tarmac for 10 years of its life always garaged and only covered a mere 11000 miles on the 4 Goodyear G800 tyres from new.

The welding machine gave a sigh of relief but not for long, the MK1 is still happening I've contacted Lloyd as the rear arches are going to need replacing, with so many repairs I’m trying to obtain all the panels and parts so when I start I can finish it completely.

I've booked a couple of weeks holiday to really get stuck into this car it because the previous owner has stripped out the interior including everything under the bonnet. The underside is a mix of epoxy like por15 over bare metal, some over of the orignal paint and a bit of Hammerite thrown in. I’m going to strip all the paint back to bare metal to avoid a paint reaction scenario. So I'll post pics of the progress on here.





And the scratching head moment! The dremmel came out and paint removed from every usual suspect area on the whole of the cars panelwork with no sign of rust. I’m sure t cut would have sufficed. Chat with the sprayer next.

Yep John I’ll keep the posting. I’ve taken out the suspension removed doors bonnet bootlid on the roll over ready to start prepping for epoxy seam sealer and tinted underseal.

It has been a slog of a week with strip disc and wire wheels. Now completed the first cut.

Hello Charles it is a 73 125 bhp pre face lift. The body work is like it left the factory and it was ziebarted (I think that’s how you spell it) from new.

I find incredible it was taken off the road in 83 with only 11000 miles on the clock. The previous owner not the original owner had started the work, I never met him as a restoration company bought it off him, and I bought it from them.

My one owner Valencia blue car was taken of the road in 83 with only 48000 miles on the clock and the 2 cars in condition seem worlds apart.

This is the second cut DA sander with 120 grit and an alkaline cleaner diluted 5:1.



Application of 100% concentrate phosphoric acid a bit of metal conditioning and surface rust neutraliser.



A bit of fabrication and welding.

Hello John I thought I had put the hammock away, good to here your Pi has fired into life.

Prep for epoxy primer.

Where do you find these cars. Keep up the great work. Where do you find the time/energy these are big projects you are taking on so impressed. Don't get the parts mixed up between cars. I jest hats off to you.

Finished the underside last weekend.

240g key on the epoxy seam sealer applied.



Thrown a splash of Carmine red and NOS Liquorice brown tintable underbody coating.





Tackle the engine bay this weekend!



Hello Chris there’s never enough time. I’ve taken the decision to abandon the mk1 project for the foreseeable future, just not feeling the love for it, to many bits missing or not correct and it’s an uphill struggle to get them.

So this little GT is the next project, it is a much needed change.

A nice project to start learning how to spray, as it’s proving to be a an expensive hobby. So I’ve opted to have a go on a smaller car to start my learning curve.
