2500 S Project
I recollect now you posting you had got the white S, so hopefully your future renovations will be an interesting read!
I remember the days here in the UK when you could buy scrap cars from the breakers yard - if you were lucky and there at the right time, a Triumph was driven in and a short time later you drove off in it for it to start a new lease of life! The ones where the owner had been presented with a high(ish) mechanical bill or a failed MOT on mechanical issues were the best finds rather than the ones that had bodywork issues, but unfortunately here once a car goes to a scrap yard now, they cannot be legally put back on the road or resold.
In the mid eighties, I bought a Valencia Mk1 2.5PI saloon from a scrappers for £95 (!!!) - although shabby, it was solid. It didn't have the right engine or interior, but then it wasnt overly difficult to source the correct parts. I ended up selling it as then I had nowhere to keep it - a decision I have regretted ever since! Even more so in recent years as my wish to own for the Mk1 PI has grown!!
I remember finding a 1966 Royal Blue Mk1 in a breakers yard in the late 80's; it wasnt particularly good bodily, although the doors, boot and bonnet were good. As I already had a Royal Blue Mk1, I bought it for £80 and they even delivered it and dumped it (!!!) on my drive (much to the dissatisfaction of SWMBO!), so I took all these panels and trim off (I still have some of them at home today!) plus the engine and gearbox etc, and then sold it back to a different yard for about £30 - and they picked it up as well! The other bonus I recollect was find a very big 'King Dick' adjustable spanner (a good make then) under one of the seats, which I still have and use today! Made it even more of a bargain!! The good old days......
Anyway, good luck with the S! It will be good to read how it progresses!

Re: 2500 S Project
I’ve never worked on an s but your coil looks very busy with wires I’m trying to visualise the new cable runs but there is normally only one cable on the negative coil terminal to the distributor. I could be wrong and mine is wired wrong!

I’m useless putting things into words hope you don’t mind I’ve used your photo. Are these 2 cables throwing 12v into your coil when cranking or permanent live when you engage the first increment on the key ignition?
Seems like your making good progress through the to do list! Keep us updated.
I think I have some lifting eyes if you want them I’ll check if I have you can have them if you haven’t pulled the engine already

Re: 2500 S Project
Hey Ross,
No worries for using the photo at all
The positive terminal at the rear of the coil (as you're looking at it in the photo) is the feed from the ballasted ignition circuit and is live with the ignition on. The negative at the rear of the coil heads to the dizzy.
The positive connection at the front is the un-ballasted 12v feed from the starter and is only live when cranking. The other negative I'm not 100% sure about off the top of my head (am writing this from my desk at work) but I presume this is the feed to the tacho? I will take a look next time I'm in the garage.
The wiring does look a bit confusing in the photo - here's a drawing which may make things clearer or a lot more confusing:
Cheers for the offer re lifting eyes - I was hoping to get the lump pulled this weekend so I don't think they'd get here in time. Am thinking of buying a lifting sling to use with my engine hoist. This should hopefully do the trick: https://www.bunnings.com.au/gorilla-300 ... g_p4211250

Re: 2500 S Project
Isn't the ballast resistor on a 'S' incorporated in the wiring loom, instead being seperate like earlier models? Unless Australian models were different...?
