BW35 or BW65?

#1 Post by 2500-Dreamer »

Please, can you advise me?

In my 2500PI 1973 is a BW65 that is stuck.
The car has been in a warehouse for many years. Dry but damp.

Now, I can find a lot of BW35s and BW65s for sale on the internet.
What should I look for if I want to replace the stuck one with another BW65?
What I am trying to say is, will for instance a Volvo P1800 BW35 fit my 2500? (swap the Triumph bellhousing)
There are a lot of BW35 and BW65s around but I suppose there are differences. Like the connections for an oilcooler. Inhibitor switch. Gear ratio's, operating lever etc.
what BW series would fit?

Thank you.

The main difference between a BW35 and BW65 is that the 35 has a splined female output shaft for the propshaft, but the 65 has a flange similar to manual gearboxes. Therefore the propshaft would have to be changed to go to a BW35. I think the torque convertor is different too??
However, I'm not certain of the changeover point, but I would have thought a 1973 PI would have had a BW35 originally. The BW65 I thought was only fitted on the later facelift cars?
I sure someone may be along soon to confirm, or correct me if I'm wrong!

Thank you for your answer.
The gear lever says: PRND21.
I'll have a better look underneath. For the prop shaft connection and the round cover of the BW65.
