Two or three speed wipers?

#1 Post by Joe Wright » Sat Aug 13, 2022 8:19 am

Hello all.
Is there a way to fit two or three speed wipers to a Mk1. Mine only has the single speed and id like to upgrade if possible.
Many thanks.
All the best
Joe

Mk1 PI had a two speed wiper motor and switch. Trouble is finding them!

hello Joe,

there are two speed aftermatket wipers vailable, very similar to the P.I. one. E.g.,https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/windscreen-wiper-kit.
Note thare are many varieties if ordering one.

A single-speed wiper is more liveable-with if it has a sensible switch on a stalk so you can flick it on and off, instead of the rocker switch hidden behind the overdrive switch.
I've swapped the O/D switch to the later switch in the gearlever knob, and then re-purposed the old O/D switch to operate the wipers.

In my opinion it greatly improves both the wipers and the overdrive.

Hello Cliff,

yes, very true, which is why I went to the trouble of fitting MK 2 column switches to my MK1, much more practical.

I'm not sure what single speed motor is fitted, I know that the DR3A model fitted to early TR's & Vitesse can be converted to twin speed operation, some details on this thread https://www.tr-register.co.uk/forums/in ... o-2-speed/
