Horn not working

#1 Post by Sloppy 2000 » Sun Jul 10, 2022 1:29 pm

Hello.

My horn is not working. Neither.

So far I have done the following.
1 cleaned all contacts on the fuses. Actual horn and the relay. I have taken off the steering wheel. Taking a wire from the contact supplied by the black and purple wire and earthing it. Nothing. I am thinking that the horn relay may be at fault. The head lamp flasher below. Looks the same. Should I swap them and see what happens? Or are they different and I end up causing more problems.

2 I can get the horn to work if I by pass it at the relay. But this does not mean that my problem isn't in the wheel end. I have checked the connection. Under the steering on the black and purple. There is a connection there and that is connected. But no change there.

Any thoughts please.

If it proves to be that. Anyone got one they could let me have?

Hi,

Update, swapped it with the headlamp relay. Horn works. headlamp flasher doesn't. So it is a relay.

Thanks

Isn't it satisfying to find the culprit and find it is a simple solution after all.

Anyone got one (a relay) they could let me have?

I will have a spare Jeff, but I am away until the 25th, so I couldn't get it to you before then. Depends when you need it, or whether anyone else can help you out if needed sooner?

Hi John and Charles,

I sent away toRsimmers for one. But it didn't work. the one I have on there has C1 with 2 blades in one. Single C2 blade. Single W1.

The one that Rimmers has sent has four blades. The extra one is W2. I am assuming this is the problem,

It doesn't work. They sent me another actually for free. So I have 2 that don't work, but are very shiny in comparison. But no patina.

Charles, yes I am on the right track. John if you could sell me one. I'll send you a blank cheque.
For safety, main flash unit on the horn for now. I can manage without a main beam flash. But not a horn.
All the best.

Hello Jeffrey,

some relays have an internal earth for the coil, i.e. when fixed to the body it just needs a live to the coil terminal for it to work, others, like the one you recieved needs W1 or W2 (it doesn't matter which one.) to be connected to the body.
