Rear bulb holder(s)

#1 Post by torque2me » Thu Aug 26, 2021 12:37 pm

Hi Groupies,

As my rear lights were not showing adequate light and the indicators were slow, I checked and cleaned the earthing points.
Not really any better.

Next on the list is the terminal points to the light bulb
Again, not really any better.

Hmmm, bulb holders out again and emery the inside connectors where prominent.
Still not bright enough.

Right, new holders from Rimmers.
Quality not good enough and only 2-pole received.

CW out of stock so another lot purchased from LD Parts.
On replacing them I notice that holders, such as 518041, are two pole. The present one's in my vehicle are 3-pole (probably due to the tow bar wiring requirement).

So, the question is; Does anyone know whether 3-pole types are still available and from where. Perhaps from another marque? I've checked Dolomite and TR7. Same part number for the Stag and the Stag one's are 2-pole.

Help! ;-)

I bought some to fit in a 1950's American Ford and I got those from Robsport. I can't remember how many poles they had (probably less now due to Brexit) but it may be worth giving them a call.
Currently over 35 years worth of fixing 35 boxes.
Hoping to reach 65 years worth of fixing 65 boxes.

I have never had any issues over the years with the rear lights on my Triumphs. They aren't as bright as modern vehicles, but that is to be expected.
I have a tub full of good used Triumph rear light bulb holders. If you want a set, just let me know.

3-pole is not shown in their on-line catalogue but will check on a personal levelo when I'm their for other bits & pieces.

As I say, re-manufactured 2-pole bulb holders are available from all the usual sources but my stop/tail light is a 3-pole.

If it is the stop / tail bulb holders you require (maybe I should have been more specific in my earlier post saying stop/tail rather than set  ) I will have some. Just let me know if they are of use to you.

I've never seen a three pole, what is the third element for?

Hello Phil,

the stop/tail lamp has two filaments so two poles for those and the other for the common earth return.

Is the earth not the body of the holder?

hello Phil,

it is a copper strip attached to the plastic body, but I consider that as a pole.
