Master light switch

#1 Post by Ltriumph » Tue Aug 17, 2021 2:47 am

I have a Triumph 2000TC 1978 (NZ). In NZ the master light switch has a park light that needs to be able to be switched on for warrant of fitness (MOT). The original gave up a couple of years ago - I purchased one from Rimmers they provided one but doesn't seem to allow for park only
(ABU331p) - up until now they (WOF) let me away with no park switch - not now! I emailed Rimmers about a park light - they replied with the same part number after I said it wasn't right. Just wondering is it possible to fix the original switch? I also emailed Chris Witor who came back to really quickly with alternatives just need to make sure it will work so waiting on a reply from him.

Here in the UK, the park light facility was only fitted to early Mk2's, and dropped relatively early in their production. The early wiring loom from the switch had a rubber plug connector where it joins the loom under the steering column, whereas late facelift cars had a hard plastic plug connector, and they are not interchangeable. This is possibly why Rimmers sent you that particular switch without the park facility which is correct for late UK cars but obviously not for export cars of the same era.
I can check my spares, and may be able to provide you with a good used one, but confirmation of the type of plug connector on your car would determine if a UK spec switch with the parking light facility with the rubber connector plug would be suitable for your particular car.

Thank you so much for the offer. I have been able to source one from Chris Witor. What annoyed me was I told Rimmers that the previous one they sent me wasn't correct and explained why - I wasn't asking for a refund but told them the specific issue - they sent me a link to exactly the same switch they had already sent to me some years ago - I even provided the part number so they could tell it wasn't correct. I'm not trying to put Rimmers down, rather show my frustration as I have purchased products off them with no issues. Chris Witor sent me photos so I could source the exact one required - really impressed. Thanks again for your offer.

No problem. If for any reason you don't get sorted with the correct switch, just get back in touch.
