2500 Engine numbers

#1 Post by Jake » Thu Jan 16, 2020 2:35 pm

Hi All, here's a random one for you, what engine is fitted to the TVR 2500M. I know its a Triumph 2.5 but what is the engine number prefix and more importantly the specification! Many thanks in advance.

A quick Google confirms the TVR 2500M was a TR6 / TR250 engine , with carbs.
The spec sheet from TVR at Blackpool in the day states it was 106bhp, 8.5:1 compression ratio, 1710lb in torque at 3000 rpm, bore 74.7mm with a 95mm stroke, max speed 118mph, 0-60 9secs.
The last two are irrelevant really if the engine is going in a different car.
As it was a TR engine on carbs, it's likely it was a CC engine number.
It's amazing what Google can find.....!👍

Thanks Johnnydog, I did look up the specs for the TVR 2500 on Google and saw 106BHP but I failed to make the association with the US TR6 engine, Doh!
Anyway I'll be checking the engine for the CC prefix when I see the engine. Not the best engine for my 2500 saloon but I guess it'll do if it runs okay.

Or, strictly speaking, a TR6C engine (carbs not PI!)

That spec sounds awfully like an 'S' spec though.

Cheers,
Mike.

Off the top my head I think 'S' was 106 bhp and 105 mph. Them TVR's must be a lot lighter or had different gearbox/fd ratios.
