Triumph Car Identification

#1 Post by Ian3781 » Tue Jul 09, 2024 2:03 pm

Hi

I have a Triumph 2.5 PI 1st registered 20/11/1972 assembled in Belgium and sold by Triumph France, so LHD.

Is there a way to verify its registration from the VIN 1MG51287LDL?
Folk at Rimmer tell me according to them this car doesn't exist!!

Thanks
Ian

Hi Ian, The Mk1 PI was built from 1968-69 in approx. 7000 units. The number is way too high. Best, Thorsten

Sorry just read your post again. Lot more Mk2s so this should not be the issue. Are the Rimmers people aware of the Prefix system covering the CKD sites (1 = Belgium)? Best Thorsten

I don't know Thorsten. I was quite whacked when they said they'd never heard of this kind of VIN, and never had a request like mine.
Wow, that's really surprising.

That chassis / vin no is about the right era for a late 72 PI, as I have a 72 PI that has around a 55*** chassis / vin no.
I agree the '1' in front of the model designation (MG) must signify where it was built - Belgium?
