I have copied and paste this from MSN which said it was from the Daily Telegraph. I don't think 2 and a bit out of 5 is a majority, and only 1000 respondants but is the Federation of Historic vehicles aware?
Classic cars could become subject to MOT-style safety checks after a majority of the public backed the proposed move.
More than two in five respondents to a Department for Transport (DfT) public consultation exercise agreed with officials that new tests should be introduced for cars more than 40 years old.
The consultation, which had just over 1,000 respondents, asked whether MOTs or similar checks should be made mandatory for classic and historic cars.
Under current rules, cars that were first registered more than 40 years ago are exempt from both vehicle excise duty (VED) and MOT testing – provided they have not been substantially modified from when they were new.
Although no decision has been made, it is a sign the older vehicles could in future be subject to the checks.
MOTs check a wide range of safety features on cars, including items such as seat belts, headlights and the condition of doors and mirrors.
DfT officials asked whether historic and classic cars should be subject to “a new type of safety check which takes into account the age of a historic or classic vehicle”.
A Government response to the consultation published in December showed that “the majority of comments suggest that a new type of check is needed,” the DfT said.
MOT all over again !
