Hi ,does anyone have the front underlay for the carpet piece below the centre console of a mk2 2000 1977. Whoever had been at mine previously left it out. I will pay postage etc. Cheers
Re: Wanted underlay mk 11 2000
Personally, I've never known any Triumph 2000 /2500 with this insulation pad on the gearbox tunnel. I've scrapped a good number of these cars over the years, and removed the carpet over the gearbox tunnel, but none have had this insulation pad, either Mk1 or Mk2. The original carpet is backed by a rubbery type substance which gives it a degree of rigidity, but it sits directly on the metalwork of the body.
I have two L reg PI's - one is being broken for parts, and the other has got the dash stripped to replace the heater box, and neither have this insulation pad on the gearbox tunnel - just carpet.
The insulation pad is shown in the parts books for both prefacelift and facelift models, so why they don't appear to be on any (of my) cars is a bit of a mystery.....
I would suggest that your car has possibly never been fitted with one!

Re: Wanted underlay mk 11 2000
Cheers mate ,but the carpet in the front of gear-lever has no rigidity . When I got the car the carpet was all wrinkled up by poor workmanship. If anyone has a brown carpet part I'd be willing to buy it to make it right, Cheers.
Re: Wanted underlay mk 11 2000
Aftermarket carpets are not to the same standard as the originals and require a fair amount of trimming and messing to get them to fit anything like. The gearbox tunnel carpet is probably one of the worst to get fitting properly! They don't have the same rigidity as the originals either.
Hope you find one!

Re: Wanted underlay mk 11 2000
Hi johnboy,
I have found a brown transmission tunnel carpet (it is moulded to the shape of the transmission tunnel - the one below the centre console down to the front footwell). It is used but an original carpet piece, in good order with no wear patches. It has the rubberised backing on it which keeps it quite rigid.
This is from a facelift Mk2 with the larger carpet tufts, not the finer carpet material as found in Mk1's and pre face lift Mk2s, so will be the exact piece for a 1977 Mk2.
Let me know if you are interested.
