#1 Post by Sal » Sat Feb 19, 2022 10:07 pm

Hello there,

I need a drivers side door strap for my mk1, I did take one off of a mk2 but they’re a different size, if any one has one please let me know.

Cheers
Sal

I don’t think they are handed so any side would do

Thanks
Sal

The fronts are not handed; the rears are. I didn't really think there was any difference between front Mk1 and Mk2, although the Mk1 parts book gives it part no. 613564 with an 'alternative' part no. 623825, but no reference to the chassis no. changeover. The Mk2 parts book just gives the latter part no.
Chris Witor has reproduced the later fronts recently - £14.50 + VAT + postage, but they will be unpainted. His website infers that the difference between the two fronts is that the earlier ones were 180 degree hooked (like the rears), rather that just a 90 degree hook? Maybe someone with an early Mk1 could possibly confirm this difference?
What colour is your Mk1 Sal? I have a few used front door check straps taken from both Mk1 and Mk2's over the years (hence why I hadn't thought there was any difference...), which may avoid the need to repaint a new one!
