As the title says, I am after a Mk1 ashtray wood section for an early pre '66 Mk1. This is the one that closes onto the dash rather than the later smaller one that closes flush with the dash. I am in the process of refurbishing the woodwork (nightmare of a job) and do not have the correct peice. Does anyone have one spare, wood surface condition not important, please.

Re: Mk1 ashtray wood (early) wanted
I have one somewhere. Annoyingly I only dismantled the car a few months ago, but already my carefully boxed spares system has managed to degenerate into the impossible mess that constitutes my barn spares department. I had a look last night after reading your post, but failed to find it. I had carefully stored all the wooden trim bits together, I thought, but it has probably got itself mixed up with the contrary classification system, whereby everything dismantled on the same day goes into the same box.
If no one else come up with the part I'll launch another expedition into the jungle. i do recall it's not in perfect condition - I think I rounded the edges carelessly by not realising the wood was so soft underneath the rock-hard lacquer coat.

If you do find it, I would really appreciate it. The rest of the dash has just been fitted, but the ashtray is not right!! Off to North Wales tomorrow to compete. Door cappings will be missing for this one..... at least it saves weight

Have you located an ash tray yet? I have a couple floating around from my interior restoration. Not sure if it makes a difference, but its from a LHD vertical spare car.
As for restoring the wood work, I enjoyed that part, but fitting a cracked dash pad from another car to replace my utterly destroyed dash pad was no picnic. But the car has been on the road a year with no major problems.
Kyle.

Kyle, not found one yet, so if you have the larger earlier wood section, I would be very pleased to hear from you!

This original topic and previous post is now nearly 10 years old! Easy mistake to make - I've done it previously.... I can check - I may just have one. I'll let you know...
