Electric Power Steering
Somewhere in my addled brain, do I recall an article in the Register magazine of someone converting their manual steering 2000 to electric power? Or am I hallucinating (again)?
If the the little grey cells are firing alright, does anyone recall the name of the company that did the work?

Think they were called EZ, or something similar, can't just find the article, about three years ago I think. Not cheap though as I remember.

Re: Electric Power Steering
Hi guys, Whilst on this subject I have read somewhere that a Vauxhall Corsa electric steering box will fit but I cant remember which model Corsa and exactly what bits are needed does anyone have information and or photos please?, If its doable at home I would like to go down this route, Cheers.

Hello Montrosian,
what pressure do you have your tyres?
Even with my 'quickrack' I don't find the steering overly heavy?

Re: Electric Power Steering
Think it was a Corsa D, but they had problems with them fitted to Corsas, never mind owt else!
Not to say it can't be done, but not straight forward I would have thought.

Re: Electric Power Steering
Thanks guys, I put the front tyre pressures up to 30-32 psi its not bad for me then but my missus struggles when parking etc.
Re: Electric Power Steering
I couldn't find anybody locally who would fit EPAS to my recently acquired 2000 MK1. Even people who had used Corsa stuff before. Incidentally, modern MGF / TF ones can also be used and I think "I Love MGFs" send all theirs from broken cars to the Netherlands to be re-used.
Someone in the Tees Valley MG Owners had the EZSteer fitted to his MGBGT early this year and wrote an article on it and it looked good to me, so I've booked my 2000 in there in Chorley for July. They have a six month waiting list!
It costs a grand or an extra £100 if you want speed sensitivity (using GPS apparently). I think that's reasonable myself, although those of you who would rather DIY hydraulic setup from a MK2 or Stag will probably save money.
Let's see when mine is done. I have to leave the car for 3 days, I think, as he hasn't done a 2000 before.
I find it difficult to park and my wife finds it impossible!

Re: Electric Power Steering
Can I just ask what is wrong with the standard pas setup which was available as standard on some models of our Triumphs, and as an option on some others? It is easily retrofitted on most models, except for the earlier Mk1 (without the indentation on the chassis rail for the intermediate steering column shaft), but not an insurmountable problem. There is a minimal power output loss to run the hydraulic system, probably less so with an electric pump, but the finanicial outlay to me seems difficult to justify compared to the Triumph system.
Electric PAS systems are not without problems - Fiats for example, are notorious for electric pas pump failures, and, depending whether the pump is incorporated in the steering column, are very expensive to repair.
