Tyres size’s

#1 Post by Sal » Sun Dec 19, 2021 8:35 pm

Hello there

I have a set mk2 S wheels with 185/70/14 tyres on and would like to go a little wider if possible. Could I go up to 195/70/14 or dare I say it 205/70/14?

Are all S wheels the same width or did they make different sizes.

Thanks
Sal

All S and Stag alloys were the same size. The original S tyre size was 175 14 (these days labelled 175 80 14), so a 175 70 14 or 185 70 14 tyre will look ''under tyred", so if you are going down to a 70 profile, the tyre needs to be at least 195 70 14, if not 205 70 14. The 80 profile means the tyre wall depth is 80% of the tyre width; 70 profile means that the depth of the tyre wall is only 70% of the tyre width, so to get the tyre 'looking right', with a 70 profile, the width needs to be greater.
If you visit the following website, you can play about with tyre size alternatives to get the equivalent to the original tyre size. If you go any bigger than 205 with a 70 profile, then the speedo will be affected.
