Re: What flavour of exhaust?
All these are ok!!
As long as you are not in the back, but then some people will put up with anything for a bit more speed.
Bill.

Re: What flavour of exhaust?
The consensus so far is semi-sport
Re MUT and his comments on Dave's "go full sport" encouragement, that really made me giggle! We're moving soon, so I'll have a new set of neighbours to im/depress

Jim, neither me or my neighbours are deaf, but we're a friendly, tolerant bunch of folk 'up north' and I've had plenty comments on how well the car sounds, and not a single negative one. Having said that, the choice is yours.

Re: What flavour of exhaust?
I have the same setup as Dave on the pi, just the rear silencer.
It is quieter at speed than the single centre box system on the estate, but the estates do boom a little. It is a fair bit louder at lower speeds (and higher revs/lower gears through the underpass in Doncaster )
Dad would be able to answer the 'noise in the back?' question better than I as he and Mum have been to France with us, in the pi, with that system on it. But we also have a weathershield fabric sunroof which 'rustles' a little at speed too.
As an aside, the estate exhaust quietened a lot when I fitted a CW 6-3-1 manifold, it also endowed the car with a little more low down torque, best explained by the ability to tow (at legal speeds) in overdrive top up inclines that would have required straight top before. Not sure about it's effect at high revs.....it's a standard S so cant attain high revs

Re: What flavour of exhaust?
It also depends on the use you want to make of the car Jim. If it were a super standard showcar, I couldn't bring myself to put a CW one on it. It should in that case have a staineless peashooter.

Re: What flavour of exhaust?
We should not forget that the same system used on an estate or saloon will give different noise levels. Colin has hinted at it, and CW makes some recommendations too.
I've had a straight-through centre with expansion back box on a tuned Pi saloon before. This also had an SAH 6-2-1 manifold and SAH357 CAM. It got a bit quiter above 60MPH! My current 2000 did have a standard system (2 centre boxes, simple pipe at the back) and this has it's own distinctive sound. When I had to replace it, all I had at the time was a complete stainless 3-box system with bigger diameter piping. The car is almost silent now, quite a change.
If it were me, on a saloon, I'd go for the straight-through pipe and single box at the rear, or perhaps the single box centre pipe (and a box at the rear), probably the latter for comfort at (as Alan said) our ages. On an estate, it'd be the single box centre + rear box.
Do fit the correct supports everywhere. The usual bodge at the rear subframes does not help at all!
Cheers,
Mike.

Re: What flavour of exhaust?
Thanks all for the feedback
I'm off to Somerset tomorrow, with a bundle of notes...
Colin: it's not a show car, just an original car that's been unused for 5 years and needs dipping in T-Cut and polish I've got no reservations in making it my daily driver, so I'll be putting in rear seat belts, changing the rims to accept modern tyres and sorting the rough running and vibration!

Re: What flavour of exhaust?
Lee if you fit an auto downpipe as well, you can remove the manual gearbox without dropping the exhaust which may help you in particular with a competition car. Except if you have a 6-3-1 manifold as I don't think they do them for auto equipped cars.leesellars wrote:Hi Jim
