Re: Buying a 1978 2500 tc
Luke, Just to expand/amplify on Alec's excellent advice: - Rust; pay particular attention to the base of the front windscreen pillars where they go behind the front wings, and the sills at the back of the front wheelarches. Rainwater is allowed to drain through here and, if neglected, things in this...

Gavin, In simple nuts-and-bolts terms, yes, I think retro-fitting a Mk2 with Mk1 rear suspension would be possible. Dynamic...

Re: Rover V8 Diesel Engine into Limo
I believe that the current Land Rover V8 engines are modified Jaguar AJ-V8 units, though would not like to say when the changeover from BMW to Jaguar units took place in the Range Rover (the 'old' Discovery had the Buick/Rover unit to the end). BTW, there was also a 4.4-litre version of the Buick/Ro...

Re: PI and S engines differences
if anyone thinks that because an early flywheel is lighter that this could be a good modification to a later engine, it won't fit as the crank tail lengths are different Indeed so, Alec - apologies if I inadvertently muddied the waters there... No excuse on my part as Chris Witor explained the vari...

Re: PI and S engines differences
Thanks, Colin.
Was aware of the lighter flywheel fitted to Mk1 PIs, but not so certain as to the sum of the other crankshaft differences.
And, yes, 'webs' was exactly the term I was looking for last night...

Re: PI and S engines differences
Hello Jim, Sometime from late 1971 (MG50000 onwards), PIs were fitted with a revised engine block, basically intended to increase commonality between the 2000 and 2.5 units but also including a number of sundry changes including - I believe - some additional thickness to areas of the crankcase walls...

Re: Transmission noise
Possibly middle-to-tailpipe joint not properly centred/aligned where it goes through the rear subframe? That said, I'd expect it to buzz rather than rattle unless the other mountings are very loose...

Re: 1974 2500 pi
Jason, I've always bled injectors by very slightly loosening the unions between the injector feed pipes and the back of the injectors themselves, cranking the engine until fuel begins to weep from the unions, then re-tightening. This is best done on perhaps not more than two or three injectors at a ...
