Re: Rear brake nipples

If you put a hose clamp or even carefully placed molegrips on the the flexi pipe, then you shouldn't loose too much before doing a full brake fluid change and bleed when you get longer bleed nipples.

Re: Rear brake nipples

I have a good number of new rear wheel cylinders, both nos and new aftermarket. The thread size of the bleed nipples does vary, as some aftermarket cylinders have larger sized bleed nipples. The length of them varies too. I try to fit replacement cylinders with longer bleed nipples for the exact sam...

Re: Engine out question...

Hello Sal, My preferred method is to drop the engine gearbox combined, and it still is awkward as the front suspension is unwieldy to refit, but that is because I work alone, with a helper it is much easier. What I find hard is mating the gearbox to the engine when it is in position in the car usin...

Re: Engine out question...

If you're using an engine crane or block and tackle to lift the engine upwards, it will come out complete with the gearbox in one unit, but you need height to do this and a helper to support the rear of the gearbox to clear the bodywork. The engine sump will come out past the cross member without re...

Re: 2.5 Engine Wanted

Depending whether you want a 2.5 PI (MG) engine or a 2500 (MM), I have a good 2500 (MM) engine complete with its original 219016 cylinder head (they are extremely sellable on their own) still mated to its gearbox but is easily separable. It will be open to offers around £500 (without the gearbox) an...

Re: Front wing/valance drain hole?

On my 1973 PI, and 1976 2500S there are drain holes where the front lower corner of the wing meets the front valance, and several along the whole of the lower edge of the front valance. They were often blocked with underseal that was applied by the dealerships when new. They are about 1" wide. On my...

Re: Points gap?

The point of the cam opens the points against the 'heel', so they need to be set whilst open against the cam. I presume you know how to set points, but.....just in case.......when fitted (don't forget the double insulation washer), just nip the securing screw sufficiently so that it holds the points...

Re: Engine tilt !

Charles and Thorston are correct - all the engines whether a 2000 or 2.5 etc all tilt backwards and to one side. One thing to check however is the gearbox mounting in the rear cross member - if that has collapsed or sunk / disintegrating due to oil contaminatination, then the engine will sit slightl...

Re: Diff identity

Theoretically, assuming it was the correct diff in the auto PI when you did the original swap, it should be a 3.45 ratio. As long as it hasn't been stripped and messed about with previously, the easiest way is to check the identification letters stamped into the casing which should be MG for a 3.45 ...

Re: Mystery Motor

It is a facelift 2500 engine originally on carbs and originally mated to an auto box (that's from the engine number), but I can't say what car the added injection parts are from.
