Re: Diff oil
I use GL5 spec as per the manual states. I have been using the Halfords own brand which seems ok. In all the cars I’ve had I have never seen dirty gearbox or diff oil. On all my vehicles I have always changed all oils and fluids annually as a minimum and sometimes twice a year with engine oil & filt...

Re: Crankshaft thrust washers
Further to my last post I have just completed a front suspension rebuild and with the front cross member removed I was able to easily remove the sump and have a look at the bottom end. Investigation revealed badly worn thrust washers so a new set was fitted bringing the tolerance down to 9 thou. All...

Re: Strut shims
I am pleased to report my front suspension rebuild is finally complete. Regarding the shim washers to the lower front struts some studying of the book and a look at the dimensions the camber angle is supposed to be 3/4 deg negative. Taking this into account and the short distance between the top and...

Re: Seat Belt question
I’d give Quickfit Safety Belt Services a call. www.quickfitsbs.com. I just got a complete new set and they reused the existing buckles. They can refurb the center housings as well if required. Fully tested and guaranteed. Changed colour of the webbing from black to beige to match the interior. Took ...

Re: Strut shims
Further to my previous post on these shim washers I have got everything back together and it would appear the shim washers only fit on the lower strut bolts, the 3/8 or 9/16 head ones. They will not fit the upper bolts. I have fitted the spacer on the front upper bolt. It would appear that it’s main...

Re: Sub-frames protection
I am currently completing a front suspension rebuild and I have used black gloss Hammerite for most of the bits. The previous owner of my car painted the whole engine in green Hammerite with the hammered finish and it looks really good. I chose Hammerite because it claimed it can be put on to rusty ...

Re: Strut shims
Clifford you seem to be making a bit of a meal of this. My initial enquiry on here was to ask about shims. I have today fitted everything back together with the shims as they were found. Whilst your comments are appreciated, noted and understood all that is required at the end of the day is that all...

Re: PAS Pump refurb
It would appear there are 2 types. The BL book shows a nut and a woodruff key in the shaft. I have eventually got the pulley off and it appears it is just pressed on to the end of the shaft which is tapered. There was no thread or woodruff key. The other parts are as the book.It must be the belt tha...

PAS Pump refurb
Has anyone taken a PAS pump apart? Most of the manuals don’t mention anything about it except the BL manual which also has an exploded view. I tried to follow the BL manual which says remove the flywheel by undoing the nut on the front but I couldn’t see any nut or how the flywheel is actually held ...

Re: Strut shims
Have had mixed reviews on this and it would appear that the FL models had shims put at the spacer side as well as the opposite side. Annoying that none of the manuals mention anything on this but there must be some notes on it out there?. I was at Chris Witors on Friday and asked him and he was unce...
