Re: Points gap?
The point of the cam opens the points against the 'heel', so they need to be set whilst open against the cam. I presume you know how to set points, but.....just in case.......when fitted (don't forget the double insulation washer), just nip the securing screw sufficiently so that it holds the points...

Re: Engine tilt !
Charles and Thorston are correct - all the engines whether a 2000 or 2.5 etc all tilt backwards and to one side. One thing to check however is the gearbox mounting in the rear cross member - if that has collapsed or sunk / disintegrating due to oil contaminatination, then the engine will sit slightl...

Re: Diff identity
Theoretically, assuming it was the correct diff in the auto PI when you did the original swap, it should be a 3.45 ratio. As long as it hasn't been stripped and messed about with previously, the easiest way is to check the identification letters stamped into the casing which should be MG for a 3.45 ...

Re: Mystery Motor
It is a facelift 2500 engine originally on carbs and originally mated to an auto box (that's from the engine number), but I can't say what car the added injection parts are from.

Re: White paint
I have had several Triumph 2000 / 2.5PI / S models in Triumph White, which is more of a 'creamy' white. All have been paint code 19. Triumph colours are grouped together, whites, blues, reds etc, although some variations in colour are hardly what you and I would describe as the 'main' colour. Honeys...

Re: Door and windcsreen rubbers
Whenever I have done a door rubber, I have put the slightest smear of red rubber grease on the section that goes in the door channel. Starting at the top 90 degree corner (a lot easier with an original rubber with the corner moulded in for a positioning guide), with the help of a very thin narrow bl...

Re: Rear Three quarter vinyl
The original C pillar vinyl had a folded seam at the front edge running at 45 degrees in line with the profile of the 1/4 light. They were all the same irrespective of Mk1 or Mk2 PI or 2500S. Some aftermarket or reproduction vinyl didn't have this seam probably for ease or cost of manufacture. The C...

Re: Tracing a Big T's history
In answer to your question about the overdrive, certainly for UK destined cars, there would have been an 'O' at the end of the 'DL'; similarly if it had the optional PAS, there would have been a 'P'. Years ago, I had a LHD 2500TC that was on an 'S registration. From memory the first suffix letter in...

If you contact Tinsmith_Skippy on here (RossTaylor), he is nearing the conclusion of his third PI restoration, and I am certain he has a roll over jig, so he may be able to advise you.

Re: Head lamp retaining ring
A quick Google has hopefully answered your question David! James Paddock of Chester list 511598 with both with the A and P suffix numbers. It looks like they have manufactured a replacement bowl in PLASTIIC (P) as opposed to the original steel bowl (A), and this differentiates the two rims relative ...
