Re: Abingdonn MG advert

I did email Simon and this was his reply TBH the web site isn't finding a lot of the stock at the moment which is being worked on, so I'm sorry about that. The web site is supposed to be a link to our main stocking system but for some reason there are bits that don't talk to each other!! Its frustra...

Re: power steering problem

Problem solved, it was the top uj. Both uj's on the shaft are metal and the shaft can't be removed without removing either the rack or column. I soaked the uj's with diesel using a syringe every day this week, at first rusty oil was coming out of the top one. Steering is now nice and smooth. Thanks ...

Re: valve stem oil seals

It hasn't done i t (smoke) since and I haven't noticed any smoke in the rear view mirror when driving so for the time being I'm going to ignore it. I don't want to do any work on this engine as later this year I will be fitting a rebuilt 2.5PI engine

Re: valve stem oil seals

The seals I was thinking of using were the ones from piper cams which are a combined spring seat and stem seal so the springs hold them in place. But as I've only had the car on the road for a month and only covered 123 miles I think I will keep driving it and see what happens. I only noticed the sm...

Re: power steering problem

Thanks for the tips, I will check it out and let you know the result. Although I've had the car three years I only recently got it on the road. Bits seizing up sounds feasible as it has only done 1,985 miles in the last seventeen years

Re: valve stem oil seals

Sorry to disagree but from researching various Triumph forums today the general consensus is that the worn valve stems/guides mean that when the engine has been on overrun or idling it can suck in oil which is quickly burnt when the engine is revved up again. The cure is to remove the head and fit n...

valve stem oil seals

Does the MK1 2000 have valve stem oil seals? If not could they be fitted? Reason for question is a smokey exhaust after leaving engine ticking over for a while.

power steering problem

My 1967 MK1 200 has power steering which works fine until after driving it for approx 4 miles the steering gets stiff in the straight ahead position. By this I mean more effect is needed to turn the steering wheel slightly left ot right but it is OK if turning a corner. I've left the car running for...
