Re: winter storage/preservation
I often find clutch and brake master cylinders can have a momentary stiffness when first operating after a long period of disuse. It's not a bad idea just to press the pedals occasionaly. Leave a window open a few inches to let a bit of air in to circulate (I'm assuming yours is garaged). I find lea...

Re: Re- fitting drivers side parcel shelf
, I bought my 1st Triumph - a 1967 gunmetal Mk1 2000 in September 1974, so just coming up to 50 years ago. Sadly, it's now probably many razor blades. I bought my first car, a 1947 Triumph Roadster 1800, in 1967, for £40. I was still at school, just taking A-levels. I sold it in 1978 for £650. I se...

Re: Front brakes not releasing
Forkie, there's some misunderstanding here. I'm so sorry if I've offended you - I'm certainly not taking the micky, merely speculating as to how brakes are meant to retract, and why the standard explanations are not completely convincing. But you have it seems made it work by reversing the washer, s...

Re: Front brakes not releasing
Sorry about the animation. It worked when I tried it a day after I posted the link, but now for some reason it doesn't. Anyway, what it showed was the inner side of the groove for each piston at a slant, ie the groove was wider at the opening but was narrower at the bottom. The result was that under...

Re: Fuelpump spacer or not?
I've an idea that this engine when used in other cars - Vitesse, TR6 etc - has a "long-lever" variant of the pump which does require a spacer.

Re: Steering rack tightness
Years ago I was fed up with soggy rack bushes and the difficulty of applying the necessary sideways pressure while tightening the nuts in order to stop the rack sliding. There were frequently advertised replacement solid alloy bushes, which I tried. Chris Witor I think. They were dead easy to fit an...

Re: Front brakes not releasing
Indeed, a good result, whatever the reason! Just to summarise, the possible reasons for the pistons retracting are: 1) The angle of the seal recess in the slave cylinder distorts the seal, which on release of the pressure pulls the piston in a fraction 2) Normal very slight wheel bearing play causes...

Re: Front brakes not releasing
You have I take it set up the pistons with what the manual calls the "relieved" section of the outer face correctly aligned? I have never understood exactly what these sections are for - is this something to do with encouraging the pistons to retract? Come to that, how can a seal exert a return forc...

Re: 2500S engine reluctant to start and barely runs.
Thanks Tony. I've nearly done that, so I'm getting there. On an impulse this morning I just clicked the key and it started first time. It runs well, idles, doesn't stall when I try to accelerate or return to idling. I've driven it up and down our track with no problems, so I'm ready for a test run t...
