Re: Estate spare wheel/tyre size
Is it the width or the diameter that jambs? As it's only a spare and simply has to be legal "just in case" then would a partly-worn tyre squeeze in?

Re: Front wheel camber
I do remember reading somewhere that centralising the rack is not just a matter of equalising the lock in each direction (I don't think they are or ought to be anyway) but more importantly so that the degree of power assistance is equalised just either side of the true centre point. I remember the S...

Re: Front wheel camber
Centralising the rack also ensures the correct self cancelling of the indicator stalk. Not necessarily. I had a Stag where every single component of the system had been incorrectly set up. The upper part of the column with the self-cancelling mechanism had been misaligned at one of the joints conne...

Re: Power steering is getting quite stiff.
It could be a track rod end, a ball joint at either end of the rack, or a top or bottom suspension swivel getting stiff, or of course a joint in the steering column. What makes you sure it is the rack itself?

Re: 2500S engine reluctant to start and barely runs.
Update: I re-checked all the suggestions people had made but the engine still would barely run, and would splutter and then die. I left it for a day, thinking I'm tired of bothering and I might as well just be rid of the car, but then tried one more time and after a moment's hesitation it suddenly s...

Re: Front wheel camber
I get the "Jacked up look changes after you move the car" bit. Surely when you jack the car up the wheels move closer together. So when you lower it again the tyres have to scrub sideways, so if the ground/floor is not slippery they stay in position until you move the car a bit. But that's only the ...

Re: 2500S engine reluctant to start and barely runs.
Many thanks. That reinforces the thoughts I have been having after I posted my question, and also tried starting again. I'll check the carburettor items you suggest. This time it didn't bang and crackle like before, and it now does actually idle reasonably smoothly, but cuts out or misfires really b...

2500S engine reluctant to start and barely runs.
This a Mark 1 which had a 2500S engine when I got it 2011. I seem to have been plagued with engine problems ever since, or at least since Covid anyway. It's always been temperamental, but was running quite well until 2019. Then came Covid, and also I was ill for some years, so the car was unused but...

Re: Very hot alternator
I've replaced the alternator, and it works perfectly. At first the engine would hardly run, with no power, would barely idle, and cut out if I touched the accelerator. But then I realised the high voltage had probably damaged the condenser, which I've also now replaced and it runs beautifully. So th...

Re: Very hot alternator
Thanks very much; I'll try your suggestions. I've taken the end cover off and immediately noticed what I think is the rectifier looks burnt and sooty. If the voltage has been getting higher steadily then I've just read this could explain the way the contacts and capacitor don't seem to last long. On...
