Managed to get a brief run out yesterday afternoon on dry roads. All performed well and an inspection underneath revealed all ok.
Engine rebuild is underway with everything now cleaned and waiting for a slot at the machine shop.

Re: Rear hubs & drive shafts
I have today finished fitting 2 new driveshafts complete with new uj’s & hubs. I decided to bite the bullet and do both. I am informed they have an upgraded outer axle assembly. I would have liked to have had the CV joint set up but all seems well with what I have. I part exchanged a pair of old hub...

Re: Rear hubs & drive shafts
That’s interesting. I have wondered about greasing the rear bearings. It does seem strange to me that there was no provision for greasing. The whole set up seems complicated. Setting it up with the Churchill tools and achieving an end float of 2 thou! (Incidentally there is a set of the Churchill to...

I think you are worrying too much Forkie.
Use a good quality fuel with a good additive and you will be fine.

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
I have to agree with Johnnydog. My car is never laid up for more than 3 months. I never take it out on wet or salty roads so from end of November until March I rarely open the garage. It always starts ok and I’ve never had any fuel issues. I always clean the carb chambers out and fit a new fuel filt...

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
As well as having the engine at working temperature the ambient temperature can make a difference also. That’s what I mean. With regard to RPM on start up, this is increased when the choke is out and I have mine set at approx 1200 rpm. As the engine warms I try to get the choke in as soon as possibl...

Re: Rear hubs & drive shafts
Hi Alec Thanks for your reply. I was just curious as to why some hubs have thicker flanges than others. Probably an upgrade over the years. I expect quite a few were ruined if they had seized bearings. Is there a way of lubricating the bearings when the hub are in place? I am going to try the pair I...

Rear hubs & drive shafts
I am again suffering again with a bit of play in both rear wheel bearings. I did mention on a previous post about the tooling required to fit new bearings and had some useful replies. I had both hubs refurbished by a local guy about 3 years ago, at great expense, who specialises in TR’s and the hubs...

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
I have tried various methods for tuning but I always go with the colour of the spark plugs to begin with. Initially, before you start any tuning, you need to check valve clearances and ignition timing is correctly set. I have to agree with Johnnydog on using my ear . I have also had good results wit...

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
I recently discussed what we put in our output dashpots at a car meet. For me it’s always been 3 in 1 oil. One guy preferred TQF (PAS/Auto fluid). The other guy used ordinary 20/50 mineral oil. I recently refurbed my twin SU HS6’s and talking to Burlens the guy recommended their stuff but agreed 3 i...
