Re: Servo Hissing
Hi, The air valve I was referring to is the one inside the servo unit itself, not the Non Return valve. As Mike says it vents to the cabin so the hissing would be audible inside. It may be a reconditioned servo, but there is always the chance of a Friday afternoon one. Other than substitution, not s...

Re: Servo Hissing
Hi Ian, With a direct acting servo there shouldn't be any air movement through the servo when at rest. Both chambers should be under equal manifold vacuum, but no air movement. Hissing on tickover implies a faulty air valve allowing a bleed of atmospheric air to pass through the chambers (and hence ...

Re: MkI Leather Seats refurbishment
Hi Richard, I have just looked in that area - was it RJ Turner Car Trimming ? If so, the Website Gallery shows some impressive work, but good to get a review from personal experience. I have several other front seats that all need more repair work than I can tackle. They are Mk2 Black Vinyl, might g...

Re: MkI Leather Seats refurbishment
Hi, I recently looked for someone that would do a repair on my vinyl driver seat cover, but as you say not much about. Aldridge Trimming offer complete vinyl covers for the 2000 seats, but a pair is pushing £500. They say they have specialists that can trim to customers requirements including leathe...

Re: A few pics of KNG
Nice job, but a vital ingredient looks to be missing - Grease. Saviour of my wagon survived 50 yrs exposed to the Rigours of Nature (and the dreaded road salt). Having said that I have done my share of underbody repairs, but swear by the grease bucket. Always assume that I will be the one having to ...

Re: Door Hinge Pin Removal Tool
Hi Ian,
Smart job, better than the 'Rustic' look of the original, but give it it's due, it did the job. Keep us posted when you put it to the test and hopefully it will perform as well as it looks.

Re: Clutch sticking when releasing pedal to engage gear
Interesting one, but my first guess would be a hydraulic issue, most likely the master cylinder. If the pressure takes a few seconds to release when you lift your foot off the pedal, it could give the symptoms you describe. Doesn't sound like there is much wrong with the mechanical components, but a...

Re: Timing cover fitting
Sorry, my mistake, just checked and see the pin is on the inside of the cover, although it's the same principle, use the tip of your finger to keep the tensioner compressed until the cover is close enough for it to rest against the chain when you remove your finger. - PS Don't think of leaving it out.

Re: Timing cover fitting
Hi, I don't recall them being difficult to keep in place, just push the tip with your left index finger so it presses against the chain. That will allow you to position the cover as close as your finger allows, that should be enough for it to rest against the inside of cover itself when you get your...

Re: Door Hinge Pin Removal Tool
Good of you to offer Bill, Some things are worth preserving, and these motors well deserve it. Ahead of their time, and still I haven't come across anything I would change mine for. Someone asked me what I would spend it on if I won the lottery, my answer - 'I would buy all the spares I want for my ...
