Re: Mk 2 battery stays
Ok so here are the pictures of what i have - the top bracket looks correct, although as i thought there are 2 sets of holes? And the stays - obviously the left hand one is a makeshift the p.o. i assume made , is the right hand one a correct one, although it is pretty bent - i cant see why it would o...

Re: Mk 2 battery stays
I believe that the top clamp is more than likely correct, the side fixings not so sure. No rush - it will give me time to find the ' original ones', photo them, and the top section, and post up. I just do not like the way it is set up currently - looks ugly. Many thanks for your kind offer by the wa...

Re: Mk 2 battery stays
Hi John, yes i believe it is similar to that - although that item looks like the pressed sides look the same - i am sure mine has two different pressings , if you see what i mean, and i also think mine has more than one hole at each end? Is it not amazing that something that you look at fleetingly b...

Re: Mk 2 battery stays
Well i would have to agree there - who would of thought even that ' basic and simple' item would have so many changes/ parts!! I thought these cars were meant to be un-complicated  . I am aware of the various hole positions within the battery box support, and i had previously wondered why so ma...

Mk 2 battery stays
Hi all - i am after a pair of original battery stays - not the top angled section - just the two threaded parts, that clamps the top angled section from the battery to the base. Mine came with a bit of a miss-mash - not sure which was original, but both were a bit bent/ tatty etc. Since going back o...

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
Thank you for the confirmation on that. Im going to have a go at balancing the carbs myself, not something ive ever done but at the same time i am not convinced on the view of a few others that they are correctly set.

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
Interesting point John - though mine are SU HS6 types, i wonder if the cams are a similar profile. I have always wondered why the last quarter inch or so to pull out appears much tighter. The return, as in the choke off action is fine - no issues - in fact it is almost in reverse when i think on - t...

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
So having gone back out last night to do a few checks etc - choke operation seemed normal - why did it not start well? So we deduced the lad had not pulled the choke out fully - i am trying to teach him the basics of starting the old girl - maybe i need a slap there for not checking in the gloom of ...

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
So the reason for asking was to check which fuel absorbs water, i just got a bit muddled which was which as i seem to be having some kind of starting/ running issue all of a sudden so i think i panicked a tad and thought ' water contamination', which now i realise will not be the case as i use non -...

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
I think i may have muddled the fuels - the 'new' fuel is the E10, the E5 now being the 'old' unleaded - is that correct?! And also, is it the new E10 that introduces water to the system over time, but the E5 does not , which means a few months left in the tank should not give any issues - is that al...
