Those panels are usually readily available in great condition second hand from the usual suspects, LLoyd Reed, Andy Harrison, Roger Carnell etc

Does it keep running if you keep the key turned to the starter position? If it does, then it will be your ballast resistor.

Don't necessarily trust the timing markings. It has been known for the pulley to slip around due to the rubber damping material becoming unbonded.

My two daughters sat either side with our friend and 2500S estate owner was in the centre having his face whipped with long hair! I think in all we did an enjoyable and thankfully uneventful 1000 miles.
