Agree with Johnnydog and also have used Millers VSPe with Shell Super with no problems with either the PI or hard worked rally car. They both have not had hardened valve seats fitted. I drop the engine and box out of the bottom. The struts do not need to be removed. I just undo the bolts holding the control arms to the cross member. A 1977 2500 with the 45D distributor would be 10 degrees BTDC. Pre 1973 was 8 degrees.

Known good 2500S engine with head off to inspect bores and reworked head available near here in Kent. He wants £800 but is a good known quantity. I will PM you his number if you are interested. Why not pull your engine apart and see what the problem is first! Assuming it is its correct MG prefix lump.
