Bear in mind that 'Popeye' Chatterton recently snapped a stub axle by over tightening it.......
I usually find that getting wheel nuts as tight as you can with the crappy wrench in the car tool kit exceeds the recommended torque figure.

Re: My Old 2000 For Sale
Good news, I called into the dealer who bought my 2000, he's sold it on to a guy who worked at the garage which sold it new back in 1969!

NOS Seat Cover - Free - Early mk2
Free to a good home, a NOS seat fabric set for the front passenger seat ( I think) of an early mk2.
It looks as if it would also fit a driver's seat with minimal persuasion.
It's in 'New Tan' with the nylon fabric in the centre, vinyl edges.
PM if you'd like it and I can arrange to get it to you.

Re: Engine Mounts
Chris Witor does decent quality engine mounts, twice the price of the cheaper ones, worth spending the extra money.

A gearbox from an older Mercedes may be an option too.
The 4 speeder on my 1990 300E has a cable speedo drive and I believe that the gearbox is mechanically controlled rather than by a load of ECUs which would ease retro fitment to another car.

Re: Vibrations!
Worn driveshaft splines can be another source of vibration.
I had various combinations of used driveshafts on my 2000 at different times, each of which gave different vibration characteristics.
