Re: PRV copper washers
The copper washers you describe are single use 'crush washers' - they are in essence a folded washer which forms a good seal when tightened. After use, they are better replaced with new. As copper washers are soft, they mould themselves to any surface irregularities to provide a good seal. In the ...

Re: wtd: McPherson Strut tube
I have several good used ones, but unfortunately due to other commitments I am unable to access them for approx 3 weeks. If you don't get fixed up prior to that, let me know.
Alternatively, if you need one sooner, you could try Andy Harrison (Exeter area) or Roger Carnell (Scotland); both of which ...

Re: CP or CR engine
A 1973 2.5PI with twin balance pipes between the throttle bodies (as in your photos) is likely to be a 125bhp unit rather than the earlier 132bhp. I understand the engine change was from engine no. MG75001.

Re: CP or CR engine
What engine no. prefix is it? Surely an original PI engine should have a MG prefix? Unless it's previously had a replacement CP / CR engine from a TR.....?

Re: Mk 2 Boot lock dismantling
Just to answer the above, there are only two components - the latch which is one piece, and the lock assembly which again is one piece. The retaining ring is part of the lock assembly, so you won't loose any parts once you have rotated it, and withdrawn it from the body. The lock, rod and retaining ...

Re: Mk 2 Boot lock dismantling
Again, it has been a while since I removed a Mk1 boot lock assembly - a Mk2 more recently, but I would say the procedure is similar.
From memory, I find that it is beneficial to remove the bolts securing the latch part to the inner boot panel so that it can be moved around in its aperture. It won't ...

Re: Coil wiring
My 1973 2.5 PI is the same era as yours Simon, and al Screenshot_20260214_220026_Gallery.jpg so fitted with its original AC Delco alternator as yours (whether it was supply issues at this time, but early '73 PI's (maybe 2000's as well (?) were fitted with AC Delco instead of Lucas), hence the ...

Re: Cuts out when hot at idle and difficult to restart.
It's hard to see but it looks like you do have a ballast resistor fitted and wired up. Owner often remove / bypass them and fit a 12v coil. My 1973 PI definately still has a ballast resistor fitted.

Early facelift model dash looms from the gauges had the same rubber plugs as the prefacelift dash and are interchangable, before the hard white plastic plugs / connector blocks were introduced.

Re: Door hinge pins
Chris Witor does supply them but is currently out of stock unfortunately.
As I would think it is a relatively frequently requested part, it may be worth contacting him about further supplies?
