Re: 2.5 Engine Wanted

Hi Sal,
By that do you mean you are after a Mk1 engine? In which case, I may be able to help you.

Re: Mk1 wider track/stance (mk2 running gear)

Alternatively, would it not be as simple to fit Mk2 handbrake cables whilst everything is being disconnected? They are available quite cheaply.

Re: Looking for GAB721N

I remember that particular car. It was in lovely condition then. It hasn't been taxed since December 2006 (but not SORN'd either), and the last V5c was issued in November 2006. MOT records are not shown so it must have declared MOT exempt or it would show when it actually expired (so I understand it...

Re: Timing cover seal

It is a standard right hand thread, and a 15/16 " socket is required. Alternatively, if the engine is still in the car and up and running, you could do it the old fashioned way, by putting a socket and long extension on the crankshaft bolt, and then flick the starter. I would leave an inch or so of ...

Re: Wanted Six appeal magazines

Incidentally, I have a good number of duplicate SIXappeal's from the late 80's and early 90's, and a few oddments in the late 90's.
If any one is short of any from that I era, I can be more specific about the issue numbers / dates I have available.

Re: Wanted Six appeal magazines

Hi Charles,
I have a duplicate of issue no. 28. There is a bit of damage to the bottom of the front cover, where the surface of the paper has stuck to another magazine, but the magazine itself is in good order.

Re: Timing cover seal

The simplest way with limited tools is to remove the starter motor, place a big flat bladed screwdriver or thin tyre lever in the teeth and against the bell housing to 'lock' it in place. It needs another pair of hands to hold the screwdriver / tyre lever whilst releasing the crankshaft nut. You may...

Re: Seat Belts

My recollection is a car of 1966 era would have had light grey seat belts, irrespective of interior colour.

Re: Cork Gaskets

Whenever I have changed a rocker gasket, the replacement seems to have shrunk, and is smaller than the recess around the lip of the rocker cover. I usually put a few blobs of blue Hylomar in the recess, and gently stretch the gasket to fit using small clamps in the corners until it has regained its ...
