Re: Rebuilt engine smoking on start up
Is the coolant level in the radiator (more important than the level in the so called expansion bottle!) remaining constant or is it dropping and requiring regular topping up since the rebuild? Has the cylinder head been retorqued since the rebuild? Triumph engines should be (I can't remember the mil...

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
It sounds like your mixture settings need some tweaking! As a basic setting, turn each mixture screw up until the jet contacts the piston (noticeable by slight upwards movement of the piston) then turn them both back down by two complete turns. The slot on the bottom of the mixture screw aids gettin...

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
The float valves need a 5/16 BS 1/4 thin walled socket to undo them.

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
at last i got the new spares! I removed the carbs, and without dismantling them, a first issue is revealed (if not the only one). Rear carb piston is stuck and when i move it with my hand it does not return to its position: The front one works ok (picture with the dirty piston) The funny thing is t...

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
If the plugs are relatively new, a clean with a brass wire brush should suffice. Gunsons do a relatively cheap but arguably effective carb balancer which should help. Other more expensive air flow meters are available, but good quality used ones are on Ebay which I think are better than the new Guns...

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
Hi Matrix, From everything you have posted, the symptoms relate almost certainly to a carburettor issue rather than the delivery i.e. fuel pump, tank, lines etc As I said in post #2, although the carbs have been rebuilt, it doesn't follow that they have been set up correctly. The fuel delivery from ...

Re: Acceleration stops at 50mph - max speed=50mph
I have had problems with Strombergs on all my earlier Triumphs - mainly due to periods of inactivity. On each of them, it was the back carb that was leaking. Rather than the actual carb leaking, the cause was the float/ needle valve pin not seating properly and allowing the rear (lowest) float bowl ...

Re: PAS rack question
Although this one is obviously local to me, a company repairing your own rack rather than an exchange rack repaired 'cheaply' from one of the big Triumph suppliers would be my preferred option.

Re: Acceleration cuts out at 50mph - max speed
Hi Thorston, yes I have also seen recommendations about using ATF in the carburettor dash pots as opposed to oil. Not tried it myself, and not sure how it would be affected by temperature changes? Probably stick with oil personally!

Re: Acceleration cuts out at 50mph - max speed
Are the new plugs the correct spec and the correct heat range? What plugs were in originally? What did you replace them with? As this appears to have happened since the plug change that's why I'm asking about the type of plugs you've fitted compared to what was in previously. There are different sch...
