The bolts that hold the discs to the hubs need to be shorter otherwise they bottom out in the hub. Drop the front suspension off, lower the entire engine and box as one unit to the floor, no need to separate.

Chris, Stag column different, ignore that. Are you sure the bearing had broken, very unusual too. Play in the top of the column is usually due to the outer column skipping down the inner column a bit. Undo the column adjuster, then undo the nut a few turns on the adjuster to make it slack. Grab hold...

The repro ones are awful. I put some in mine and they tore apart within weeks.
Find a pair of good second hand units, put new thrust washers in , available from Chris witor.

It does say that changes to a vehicle completed prior to 1986 will be deemed as being original, so providing you can proves the changes were made early on it then becomes a VHI and qualifies.

It's behind the n/s boot hinge. Pull off the black Earth wire to bypass it and all should be well.
