Thanks, Julian. It is body colour underneath, on top of stonechip. When the rebuild is finished, it will be covered in Dinitrol as well.

2.5PI Mk1 - The White Elephant
Some of you may know about my 2.5PI Mk1, known affectionately as "The White Elephant" - a name given by an ex due to the futility of spending huge sums of cash (a) storing the basket case in a rented lock-up for 8 years, and (b) paying for someone to put a lot of new metal into all the holes. A lot ...

Re: Intermittent Hesitation
I think/hope I've found the problem - the points are not closing properly due to a tiny lump on one of the faces. Only visible when you hold them up to a light! I will probably change the condenser as well, in case this is failing and causing arcing across the points, and therefore the deposition ...

Re: Intermittent Hesitation
Hi Alec,
No, the engine isn't exactly standard! About 180 bhp. There is no vacuum advance on the distributor. I do want to check the timing again, just in case. I usually set it for about 8 degrees at idle, but this is the static setting so maybe some more advance (my idle is set to about 1100rpm ...

Re: Intermittent Hesitation
Thanks Colin. I've had a "lazy" injector before, but this is more of a "whole engine" experience - a light increase in throttle does not cause any acceleration or pick-up, just fluttering, until it seems to wake up and off we go.

Intermittent Hesitation
Hi Folks,
I'd really appreciate your thoughts on a problem with my 2.5PI rally car. When accelerating from a stable speed, the engine first hesitates and feels a little "fluttery" before eventually picking up as normal. This is more than a momentary hesitation - it can last for a few seconds ...

Re: Latest MK1 PI
Great news, Lee - well done! I'm sure Steve will be pleased to see his old man's car back on the road again. Definitely has a purposeful look!
I think I'm a long way off troubling the MoT man, but progress on the White Elephant is steady.
I'll be in the 2.5PI rally car at Stoneleigh, "as rallied ...

Re: Mk1 PI Brake Master Cylinder identification
Thanks all for your help. I'll go with the majority - Chris Witor also thought the all-metal one was correct. The schematic diagrams in the workshop manual (which has separate section for the Mk1 PI system) look like that type - not in itself categoric proof, but useful to back up actual evidence ...

Re: Mk1 PI Brake Master Cylinder identification
Thanks Lee - can't quite make it out on the tiny photo, but I am more than happy to take your experienced word for it! Could you let me know what finish the metal parts have - black paint, silver paint, or bare casting?

Mk1 PI Brake Master Cylinder identification
Hi All,
Can anyone help with advice on the correct brake master cylinder for a Mk1 PI?
I have two types which came off two Mk1 PIs, both single circuit Girling, but I'm not sure which one is original spec (or perhaps both are!). One is completely metal, with an integral reservoir and is a Girling ...
