Sounds like it could be a number of different problems. Fast idle / difficult to start without choke is probably that the inlet manifold butterflies are not synchronised. If it's a 1973 car then you may well have the later type of manifolds (2 balance pipes between each) which are a real pig to set ...

I think the 2000 and 2500 cylinder blocks are the same. The extra 500cc is gained by having a longer stroke, and the 2.5 sump may be different to cope with the longer crank throw. Cambro made the trim panels for the estate car using the same trim material as for the rest of the car.
