Why did the rear wheels of the BMW need to be off the ground ? Does this imply that it was in drive rather than neutral ? I have an auto BMW, I always move straight off, only because I'll be late for work if I don't!
No such thing as an odd question.

Re: Alternator
Thanks Mike,
You're quite correct, I've had 5/16 unc off Ebay and they're spot on, it's good to have the proper sizes, and as you say, the Land Rovers tend to be a mixture of fittings.
I wanted it correct as I'm off on a long continental journey soon, and i don't want any problems.

Re: Alternator
Thanks Mike, I didn't want to order bolts when I wasn't sure of the size, I've done that too often in the past and ended up with a collection unused whitworths for my S1 Land Rover.

Alternator
I just have a new alternator ,Lucas, and I need to know what is the bolt size for the adjustment bolt, as it's threaded through the alternator casting. My old unit was a plain hole. Is it unc?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Engine upgrade
That does seem a little slow, but of course when road testers used to carry out these tests when our cars were new it was a case quite brutal treatment, standing start, high revs and not gentle with the clutch. Max revs through the gears to get about 14.5s on a mk2. Flooding not good though, the flo...

Re: Engine upgrade
Hi Peter, have you thought about going on a rolling road to get a proper accurate result of the engine's performance and current set up otherwise it can be just guess work. If you are concerned about the extra weight of the panels under the car you could again get an accurate figure on a weighbridge...

Re: paint supplier
Thanks Alec,
I'll have a look at the Web sites. I just need a litre to repaint the roof as it's become blistered following a spell under a car cover when I had to change my vehicles around. I would have been better leaving it out in the rain with a good polish.

paint supplier
Have any of you been painting you're cars recently, diy I really mean rather than bodyshops, I was just wondering where to get some cellulose paint these days, it's valencia I'm after. I see The Paintman has 1l at £38, has anyone used his products?

Re: cut-outs after reving above 4500rpm
It's good to hear that your car is now lively and performing well, if anyone has done a modification previously maybe not a bad place to start the fault diagnosis. If I have a problem with my engine I tend to start by thinking "what did I change from standard spec?"

Re: Front wheel camber
I cannot think why reversing should be the cause of it, have you had the weight off the front wheels for some reason. I do recall my mk2 doing this after the engine was re-installed, it took a while to settle down to the correct position and camber.
