I'm leaning towards 205/60R15 tyres- slightly oversize but the (non standard) engine is under geared as it is currently.
Like those a lot!

:D I'll let you know Andy!

I've got a calculator that works out the difference (including factoring for the tyre size width difference) and it gave me the following figures:
- 4.1mm less gap between the strut and tyre (so reduced to around 10mm on the front strut)
- 34.1mm extension further out towards the guards
(above figures are over my current 175/75R14 5.5" wide ET30 rims; and I know tyres can vary quite a bit in dimensions compared to what the sidewall states.)

Currently I appear to have plenty of space to play with, but you can never be sure until it's all fitted up. I don't mind getting the guards rolled if necessary (they'll be getting painted in the near future anyway.) I'll take it off the jack stands next weekend and try to do some more accurate measurements.

Worst case I'll run 195/60 tyres to get some guard clearance back (- or see if the rims can be machined a bit on the hub mounting face to reduce the offset? Might be a bit dodgy/ unsafe doing that though?)

Thanks for the compliment Craj. It's hard to find anything (new) to fit so hopefully it all goes OK. Work wheels can custom make some nice 3 piece wheels but my budget doesn't stretch to US$500+ per rim!

Wrighty, 195/40 R15 would certainly looked stretched- but is that a good look on a 2500? :) It would also look like a 4WD unless the suspension was lowered to suit; the rolling diameter would be significantly reduced.

I found a 2500TC near work today so I had to have a look (even in the pouring rain :x ). It had three steel and one genuine Triumph alloy wheel/s, in the rain it appeared to have ET30 14x5.5" cast into it? It also appeared to be in the process of restoration like mine; ironically with very similar damage (rear RHS bumper mount on body pushed in) and even exactly the same mobile phone I own left sitting on the front passenger seat - freaky...

I'm taking the plunge and ordering 205/55R15 Yokohama S Drive tyres (....... and a guard / fender roller to help them fit!)

 DIY guard rolling - another new learning experience.

Hello David,

I hope I'm wrong, but be prepared to find the guard rolling hard work. Don't forget that the wings are double skinned so you will be stretching inner and outer wings together?

Hi Alec,

Yes, all the metal work in that area is fairly solid. Hopefully I will be able to get away with just folding the (rather wide) lip up into the wheel well; that hopefully won't be too hard to achieve?

Until I get the tyres (importing them from the USA), and get them mounted up on the rims, I won't know for sure exactly what I'm up against.

Cheers,

David

:D I'm moving forward slowly on this one.

I picked up a guard roller off Ebay for $132 last Friday. It's cheap (and Chinese) but looks more than capable of doing the job.

My tyres (205/55R15 Yokohama S Drive) should be arriving from the USA tomorrow. I've made a booking at a local tyre place to get the tyres fitted to the rims on Saturday; and then the I'll be able to test fit them to see how much the guards will need modding.
