I take it we don't trust anyone then.

Re: Suppliers we use and trust
Well, I think we all know and trust Mr Witor.
Chris does make the occasional mistake, perhaps the most recent one being exhaust systems that need bashing to fit (but how was he to know this without trial fitting every one of them before selling?) but my son and I have bought £'000s of parts from him since the early 1980s and have been delighted with his service and quality.
I've only used two other Triumph specialists to any great extent, in moments of silliness when I was preparing for the restoration 10/12 years ago. They are well-known ones but must remain nameless of course, and they were atrocious!

Re: Suppliers we use and trust
Okay so far I've only used two. One of those is Earlpart, and the other is Rimmers that so far I have no complaint, although I have realised in recent times that similar quality parts can be had from other locations for less money. I also have a decent motor factor that can get most of the main stream stuff (brake parts etc) for decent money.
Oh and the world wide part supplier ebay of course!!!
Regards
Gavin - I really ought to start using Mr Witor - Summers

Re: Suppliers we use and trust
1. I find James Paddock, the Stag specialist in Chester useful, if only because they are so close to me.
2. Dare I mention Halfords - they may not find favour with everybody, being a big corporate monster, but sometimes they're a lifesaver for that little widget or tool you just have to have right at that moment.
3. A mention for a little local firm called Autocheck in Mold, Flintshire. They've been doing my MoTs for about 14 years. The most common sense MoT men in the world, and any minor issue that they can resolve they will, usually free of charge. In fact, when I first took the 2500S to them, it failed on washer pump not working and one of the headlights being out. They blew the washer out with an airline, rummaged around in the boot and found a working headlight and fitted it for me - without even bothering to ring me - then passed the car.

Re: Suppliers we use and trust
Oh yeah must mention local garage where all my cars go for MOT. Sarsons in East Leake. Just down the road from work and they'll come and collect and drop off. State of the art MOT facilities in a shed of a garage - typical olds school with rows of lin bins filled with 3/8" grease nipples and the likes!! Know how to treat the MOT of an old with more sympathy than most - thats not excessive play sir, its just the way they made them in the first place! As Allen says its the sort of place that will do little jobs on the fly, unlike a lot of places that are quite happy to fail first, fix, and then reMOT.

I use Chris Witor for everything possible, and have done for the last 15+ years. Never had any cause for complaint or bad quality parts.

In addition to Witor, I find Wins do a very good service and seem to know the saloon reasonably well, unlike some of the larger suppliers I could name !

Re: Suppliers we use and trust
Just had my speedo cleaned and overhauled by JDO Instruments http://www.jdo1.com.
It's had a problem for as long as I;ve owned the car - reads ridiculously optimistic and juddered about all over the place.
Sent from Southampton to JDO in Keighley, Yorkshire by special delivery on Wednesday, returned to me, also by special delivery on Friday morning. Cleaned, overhauled and looking like new. He must have received it on Thursday, sorted it and got it back in the post the same day.
Just got it back in the car and tested - now as steady as the one in the modern VW (electronic) and as accurate as a VASCAR. Total cost £60.00.
I know I could probably have got myself a second hand speedo for less, but I wanted to keep the original so I that I never get into any problems in verifying the mileage.

I can reccomend JDO too. He did the speedo in my Stag with the same amazing improvement.
