Somewhere along the way we (not me) have managed to break the mountings on the top half of the steering column cover. So once again, does anyone have a spare to sell?

Hi Chris,
The dash and clock look good!
I'm not sure from your last post whether you still need a upper cowel - it was a request but in the same breath you state 'sorted'!
If you do need one and Charles can't help out, I too have spares if you still need one. Just be mindful if you get a replacement including the rotary light knob - there were two types. Yours is the earlier one with the parking light facility - on later cars this was dropped and the wiring plug was different too on the very last cars.

I John - yes the dash does look good doesn’t it? We are well pleased.

I managed to get a top cowl almost immediately after I posted. The “sorted” comment was a later update, but thanks for the offer.

No problem Chris.
Incidentally when moving the dash panel forward to release the speedo cable, as there usually is very little slack, sometimes on an original car, the cable is sometimes held by a tab on the transmission tunnel which can give an inch or more to play with, but generally for the amount of time it takes to jack the car up, I tend to release the speedo cable from the gearbox (or on a later car with a J type, release the P clip for cable on the gearbox cross member) which then gives enough free length to pull it through sufficiently to release the cable from the speedo.
Also reduces the risk of damaging the bottom edge of the veneer on the upper cowel as you would otherwise be wrestling trying to get your hand in the gap....

Question for the knowledgeable. Is there a version of the big saloon that had an intermittent wiper function, like the Stag?

Thanks John, I did think about disconnecting it from the gearbox, but in the end managed to get to it from underneath the dashboard.

There is no intermittent wiper option, apart from the pull the lever towards you for a single wipe. Never seen a Stag with the intermittent wipe option as standard either! The switches are the same.

Hi Charles - My Mk2 Stag (1974) has the pull towards you option, but it locks forward and triggers an intermittent electro-mechanical bi-metallic relay with a 5 second delay, it’s mounted on the relay board in the passenger footwell.

The standard Haynes & Triumph ROM wiring diagrams show the additional wiring over the Mk1 Stag. The wiring is weird, switching to intermittent feeds power to a wire that triggers the relay, the relay power output runs all the way back to the column switch and is then routed through the slow wipe circuit.

I might have a go at linking in a modern solid state relay into a Mk2 Stag wiper switch, with the relay mounted just before the loom plug, this should then also pick up a wash/wipe function.

I’ll post here if I succeed 🙄.
