M O T exemtion.

#1 Post by Baller » Sun Jul 07, 2019 9:33 pm

Hi all , Just want to find out about the M.O.T exemption rule , I have a mk1 2000 just about ready to go on the road , I have fitted P.A.S to it using all Triumph mk2 bits , I'm sure many of you have done this mod , does this effect the M.O.T law , I plan on getting it tested anyway to begin with however its handy to not need an MOT , doesn't seem totally clear on the Gov website ,

PAS was standard fitment on some 2000/2500s so will not affect the MOT status.

In fact this could be construed as adding to the safety of the vehicle so is definitely allowed.

Mk1's were never fitted with PAS; it was an option on early Mk2's and then standard on some later models such the S.
That said, it is is not a substantial change' and is perfectly acceptable modification falling within the exemption for 40+ year old cars.
My money would be on the tester not even knowing it it wasnt fitted when new especially if an original engine front plate is used rather than a 'home adapted one'!

Although of course true from the factory, I have seen at least 1 Mk1 with PAS, so it can be fitted, but it wasn't an option.

Just me being pedantic!

Cheers,
Mike.

And of course, it was a great deal easier to retro fit it on the later Mk1's as they had the indent in the offside chassis leg to accommodate the intermediate steering shaft, whereas earlier models didn't.
I too have seen a number of late Mk1's with PAS retrofitted, and unless you were in the know, it looked completely standard.
