replacement radiator
Hello everyone,
I wanted to know what peoples views and experiences are on radiators for our cars. Mine has just sprung a little leak about half way up the core which for the time being I will deal with (I hope) with Radweld as I'm on the continent at the moment. However when I return home I will want to fit a replacement, I see Rimmers and Witor seem to be selling them at £300-£400 but on ebay there are lots of other radiators for around the £50 mark. I realise mounting brackets may need fabricating, capacity needs to be enough for a 2.0 litre six, and some just don't have top and bottom pipes where required.
I've not measured the Triumph core yet but for starters what about this,

Is it feasible to fit something from a different car or even a kit car radiator, obviously I'm not too concerned about under bonnet originality.
Thanks,
Michael.

Re: replacement radiator
Hello Michael,
There is nothing wrong with doing what you suggest it's a matter of making up supports to suit, and getting hose adapted to fit.
Certainly that is very cheap for a new radiator.

Re: replacement radiator
I would try getting a few quotes to repair/recore your own rad first. I have used Serck Marston in Bolton a good few years ago, but here are a few others in Lancashire....

Re: replacement radiator
Thanks, I will look into that as well, it is a bit tricky finding a non-specific replacement but I thought it was worth looking into.
Cheers,
Michael

Re: replacement radiator
Do you specifically want a new / recored one, or would a good known used one suffice?
I have a reasonable number of used radiators for our Triumphs - all the various types for all models.
Incidentally, did you manage to source an interior light door switch for a Mk1 - I can't remember now whether I was supposed to get back in touch or whether you were doing likewise!
It's an age thing I've been told........

Re: replacement radiator
Thanks Johnnydog, I think for the sake of longevity I'm after a new radiator and I was attracted to the modern units not just on the basis of price but also as an up-grade.
I'm always interested in modern products for our cars and I wondered if anyone else had gone down this route with the rads.
The biggest problem is getting one with the top and bottom pipes more or less in the right place, I also notice in the adverts some of the rads pictured don't always have a filler cap so I imagine they have a remote filler, another model (Hella) had the expansion container built in, with a cap and even a fan switch, all very neat as a package but the core size was a bit small, I think 360mmX 330mm.
I had forgotten asking you about the door switch, sorry, and I have swapped it for a rear door switch instead, not too fussy about the rears !
Thanks for people's opinions,
I will keep looking at the options but if nothing I see is a tidy fit I'll have to pay for a genuine replacement,
Michael

Re: replacement radiator
If you are still looking for a radiator alternative, Ford Transit which I looked into a while back were £34 from Ford. I was checking sizes on the net and with a little modding will do the job, plastic and very light.
However I opted for a re-core at on my 3 core radiator at £165
