HS6 reassembly - choke/fast idle cam

#1 Post by Llessur » Thu Sep 13, 2018 7:08 am

Does anyone have any advice on how much to tighten the choke cam mechanism when rebuilding a set of SU HS6s (the bolt head circled in the attached picture)?

When rebuilding my HS6s I have found that if I do this up to anything more than finger tight the whole cam mechanism is bound tight and won’t move - it moves nice and freely if I back the bolt off to finger-tight again but obviously that’s not ideal as it’ll work its way undone eventually.

I have a built-up pair of HS6s as reference but the bolts on these seem to be done up tight.

Am I missing something?

Problem solved - there is a spacer in the mechanism which looks like it has been deformed slightly by a previous attempt to tighten this bolt (pretty sure I didn't put enough pressure on it to do this but I guess I might have done  ) I swapped out the spacer from my 'reference' carb and all is good again now :)
