Interior Swap

#1 Post by dolomitejohn » Wed Sep 05, 2018 9:06 am

Hi all.
My quest for a solid MK2 is not going well. I never thought it would be this hard to find a good car.
I do have the option to purchase a MK1 Pi (modified MK2000) in good nick, but I absolutely hate the interior / Dash.

Does anyone know if a MK2 dash, steering column, seats, door trims etc will fit a MK1 body shell without modification ? I guess I might upset a few if I ever did this but.........its not an original car anyway (highly modified).

Oh and if anyone knows of a MK2 2500 (must be solid) for sale then please PM me.

Thanks all.

The interior will fit apart from the dash. The seats are easy, interior door furniture is a bit of a fiddle, but the Mk1 dash is welded in! Not impossible to change, but a lot of work.

Suppose you could always cut the dash frame out of the mk1? You’d only have to hang the brackets for the mk2 dash then I’d imagine?

Has anyone done this conversion before?

Hello John,

the steering column is differeent. I fitted one to my MK 1 as I wanted to fit MK 2 column switchwes for the dip and wipers (also fitted Mk 2 wiper motor) Nothing seemed to swap easily and i had to make up bits and pieces. I also altered the instruments to fit a tachometer instead of the fuel, temp etc.

I made up an auxiliary panel for the temp, fuel etc.
