Hello badger the soundproofing came with a spare bonnet I bought, my dads car came with it as well. I bought the bonnet for the soundproofing because I thought they all had this at the time. I've only seen one other set, the guy was selling his car I tried to buy them off him but he wasn't keen. I have enjoyed restoring the Pi especially the ups not so much the downs but got there in the end.

I think only the P I's came with bonnet soundproofing. The bonnet on my TC came off a PI. The only one I've seen.

My old K plate 2000 had the sound pads under the bonnet, as does my PI.

I've never had any big saloon under-bonnet soundproofing - and I've had multiple 2000/2500 and 2.5PI cars!

I wonder if it was an option?

The parts book list them for PI models only. Seem to think they are perhaps only on the early cars with the side to side slatted plenum intake grille.

My PI has it and the cast alloy plenum jntake. I have a spare bonnet for the estate off another early PI with the pads on still too.

Well, all of those of you who didn't attend this years National in Devon - you missed a real treat! I didn't realise it at first, but I saw this beautiful Mk2 Valencia Blue PI on the show field, and whilst admiring its stunning paint work and detailed engine bay, I realised that it was the restoration project that Ross (Tinsmith Skippy) had detailed over many months on this forum (given away by the red swinging arms and the wheels!). Had a decent chat with Ross, and I was amazed when he said that he had no real previous welding skills, and following a short college course of only a few weeks, was mainly self taught.
The car was absolutely amazing, and is a real credit to you. I bow to your fantastic restoration skills Ross, and it was a pleasure to put a face behind all the interesting posts and pictures of the restoration. Well done!!

Hello John really good to meet you and other members at the show and participate with the PI. Having completed the restoration in September I had only done 70 miles so what better way to break her in and do 450 mile round trip to Paignton.

Anyway we set out on our journey, however 25 miles from the venue we had an injector pit stop and arrived an hour late and she was not happy, but we made it.

My Dad and I had fantastic day out catching up with other owners, the day seemed such a blur as we had to fix a few injection problems. We Would like to thank everyone who helped out with this issue and we got home with no problems other than the Speedo doesn’t work any more. But I’m willing to take that over an AA relay run any day.

Can’t wait for next years national and catching up with new friends, hopefully dads car will be compleated for it.

Here is a little more of the story if you managed it through the first part.

I’ve only ever driven dads PI for 30 minutes. We broke down with a dodgey clutch master cylinder on the way to see someone about welding the car, so after an AA rescue we dismantled it ready for the restoration.

A couple of car welders gave us some quotes, but no price was ever nailed down and at the time seemed pricey, however my view has changed due to having been there and done it now.
When I Said to dad about welding it ourselves he said you better practice on an old banger before I’ll let you rip on mine. So I bought the clapped out Valencia one for £300.

I bought a DVD by David Gardiner Bodywork Restoration and followed by a 12 Week course at Colchester college which was great for asking hands on advice which the DVD couldn’t.
To say I’ve saved any money is doubtful as the cost of someone else doing the work I’ve spent it on equipment to complete the restoration. I have also acquired an unhealthy panel beating hammer obsession on eBay now.
When posting the entire project on here I've never shown everyone the failed efforts at fabricated panels and repair sections where it wasn’t going right. However I have learnt a great deal from the practice of manipulating sheet steel.

Charles last year I think you did a car meet and drive in Folkestone I could be wrong, If your doing it this year give us a shout.
