Accelerator part 101614

#1 Post by Peter Douglas W » Sat Feb 24, 2018 8:23 am

Can anybody tell me how the Cable location collar for the accelerator pedal is fixed to the reinforcement plate for the throttle pedal. Is it a push in? Is it a weld? Is it held in with a circlip? In the Stag book there is no information. From the parts catalogue page 21-24 it could be a circlip job but no circlip is shown. Question 2 does anybody know a sorce for this part?

Hello Peter,

looking at the parts illustration, I would say that it is held in place by the throttle cable tension. I.e. the collar is pushed through the hole in the reinforcing plate and bulkhead, the cable follows and when the cable is attached to the carburettor linkage the tension in the cable keeps it in place?
Once the whole assembly is in place it can't go anywhere.
Looking at Chris Witor's website he has a remanufactured part which has that bush brazed onto it as a complete assembly. Part number:- 627337RM.
An alternative source could be a cycle shop for a similar part, even if it required some modification?

On Mk 2 carburettor models, there is a small spring steel retaining clip for the cable end that clips round the upper part of the accelerator pedal, above the pivot. it has a hole in the centre for the ball head of the cable which retains it in position.
It is part no.153041.
Is the collar for the outer cable retention not welded to the plate on the bulkhead? It is on mine. Which renders the outer cable taught and free of play, and the inner cable under slight tension from the carbs to the pedal .

I think the clip was never there, because is must be inside the car and it isn't. Nothing has been touched in this area from day 1. Even the carpets are still as they were when delivered. A vacuum cleaner cannot get at the area where the clip must be.
I have found out that the BA screws on the clamps for the shaft between the carbs were slightly loose and have worn a little bit into the shaft. I have tightened them up and it is much better. I have taped the nipple of the cable over the pedel and everything seems to be ok untill I get my new clip. :D
Thanks everybody.
The forum for me is a comforting thing. Am I on the right way or not. Or has somebody got a better idea.

Have you managed to source a clip Peter? If not, I will have one. Just let me know.

Thanks. I have sourced one from one of the lads in the Stag club. Sometimes I think the Stags and the Saloons should join up together as there are so many simalarities.
