UJ confusion

#1 Post by torque2me » Mon Nov 13, 2017 7:39 pm

Hi groupies,

A UJ has expired on my Mk.2 saloon a couple of weeks ago.

Been going through my stock of UJ,s and at the moment can only find a few GUJ102s and a couple of GUJ 115s. I always though propshaft on Stags were 102 and drive shaft 115. But numbers could be different when grease nipples were utilised. Anyway, I have trawled the web and found a number of different quoted part numbers.

For instance, CW is recommending GUJ113 for driveshaft and GUJ106 for prop.
Rimmers site shows, driveshaft GUJ102 and prop as GUJ115.

Anyone say for sure which would fit where (Mr. Stevens).

I used to know all these numbers, but time has degraded the grey cells! The ones with grease nipples do have a different number. GUJ102/103 and GUJ115/116 all ring bells, for the drive and prop shafts, with and without the grease nipples.

Remember that the Stag propshaft ones are bigger than on a 2000, and the same as the drive shaft ones - I think!

Rimmers list the GUJ115 for the prop (with grease nipple) and GUJ115NGN without! I think that was GUJ103. GUJ102 is listed as for the drive shaft (Canley Classics).

I don't have the parts books with me at present so can't check, mind you, they have the original Triumph 6 digit numbers!

Cheers,
Mike.

Mike,

That's the problem - different p/n's for different types for the two models (plus the TR6 I guess).
Old stock (Stanpart/Unipart) is now exhausted and the GKN type also hard to find now.

When I did a search on UJ, one poster, Cheesy, said 116 was too large.

Hi Kev,

The drive shaft ones are bigger than the prop ones, so maybe 116 is one of those. I'm pretty sure 115 is for the prop though.

I'd be guided by CW to be honest.

What's gone - drive shaft or prop?

Cheers,
Mike.

Mike,

Well, as my original post shows, CW is quoting p/n's not in our model range. The majority of the one's I have collected and kept must be those that are quoted in the parts books after 1975. The web is not much help as one classic site is quoting the same p/n for both propshaft and driveshaft.

The driveshaft u/j is cream crackered (maybe both) and it looks as if I'll have to take both 102 and 115 with the shaft to Moordale Motors (no longer have access to a large enough vice) and see what's what. I have now asked Santa for a pair of CV jointed driveshafts at £590 per side (+ the add-on's) but I'm guessing I'll have to sort out the u/j quandry. No doubt it is all down to whether a uj was nippled or not and how it was fitted - circlip, peaned or other!
